the importance of a chair

a reflection by cazzaniga mandelli pagliarulo about the immeasurable value of a symbolic object of conviviality: the chair
Open spaces, open-air restaurants, sun-drenched squares… What would they be without a chair? “L'importanza di una sedia” is an event organized by Pedrali at Cubiña showroom in Barcelona involving the designers Michele Cazzaniga, Simone Mandelli and Antonio Pagliarulo.
An exhibition aimed at narrating the collections of chairs they have designed for the Italian company, by considering their primary meaning: being a social gathering factor. In order to find out the importance of a chair it is necessary to look into the typical characteristic of Mediterranean people: conviviality. On one hand, designing a mass-produced chair is a complex operation in which several players are involved: from the designer to the manufacturer, to anyone who, with his artisan and industrial skills, contributes to creation of the chair. On the other hand, it is the object itself that becomes one of the main characters within a “public space”.
